When T-Mobile was hitting Verizon hard in the media, a retort surely was needed. Verizon had a clear advantage when it came to quality and quantity of network coverage, but if you happened to only use your phone in the limited area where T-Mobile actually did have decent service, well I guess you might be ok, but who wants to settle for that?
